Christmas time in Computer Science at the University of Birmingham

As it was that part of the year again, it was time for Computer Science students at the University of Birmingham to enjoy the festive spirit whilst drinking mulled wine, eating mince pies and turning on the Christmas lights.

As tradition tells, we first decorated the tree in the most Computer Sciencey way we knew how: Throwing a bunch of old computer parts on different branches. This year we had a selection of Motherboards, RAM, floppy disks and much more! Along with these, we also have 3D printed heads and even an old Xbox 360 – or at least what was left of it…

The Christmas Tree at Computer Science

After the tree was done, the Christmas helpers populated the tables with delicious mulled wine, mince pies and a selection of other soft drinks and snacks. Needless to say, it didn’t take long for a crowned to gather – it was free food after all and we all know us student cant resit!

Whilst filling our bellies and socialising, we gathered around the Christmas tree. When the room was almost full to bursting, our very own Santa (Dr Mark Lee) stepped up to give his speech. During this time, we had music playing and even made time for a good old sing song of a Christmas carol or two – how festive can you get? When this was all over, it  finally came time for Santa to crown the tree with our Linux Penguin.

After all of this, it was back to chatting away and having a great time. Even Betty the Robot seemed to enjoying herself. And there you have it, Christmas at Computer Science. What more could you ask for at such a brilliant and beautiful university!

November is finally over

So last month I was doing the no shave November as it seemed like a good idea at the time. Now that December has come, I am almost tempted to keep it – at least till I get back home for christmas… Seems to have grown somewhat well and I am also in desperate need for a haircut. What do you think?
